This BBQ sauce is made with simple, clean ingredients - no preservatives, no added fructose-glucose syrups, and you control exactly how sweet it is. It take a little time to cook, but trust me, it's worth it. Make a bigger batch and store in the fridge or freezer so you always have a delicious, healthier BBQ sauce ready to use!

Ingredients for 2 cups:
1 cup diced onion
2 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups organic tomatoes sauce
3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
3 tbsp honey mustard
1/4 cup blackstrap molasses
3 tbsp maple syrup
1-2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp chilli flakes or 1 tbsp hot sauce
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cumin
pinch of cinnamon
Directions:
Saute the base: heat the oil in a small pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until soft and lightly golden. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Build the flavour: stir in the tomatoes sauce, apple cider vinegar, mustard, maple syrup, molasses, smoked paprika, chilli, salt, cumin, cinnamon and lemon juice. Mix well.
Slow simmer: reduce the heat and let the sauce gently bubble for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. This helps it thicken and develop deeper sweetness.
Blend: for a smooth sauce blend with immersion blender.
Taste&adjust: add more chilli for heat, maple for sweetness, or lemon for acidity.
Store: let cool completely. Store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks or freezer in portions.
ENYOJ!
